Fluorescence
Fluorescence is the colorful glow that diamonds with this unique property exhibit when placed under a particular type of light known as ultraviolet (UV) light. Fluorescent diamonds most commonly show blue fluorescence but other fluorescence colors include green, orange, yellow and white.
As of today, diamonds with Strong and Very Strong fluorescence have not been
created by man or machine – only nature has achieved this effect.
The Future of Fluorescence
Since the 1990s, pink and blue diamonds have more than quadrupled in value. These types of stones have achieved more than $1 million per carat at auction. This dramatic increase in price is mainly due to the extreme rarity of these diamonds. While pink and blue diamonds are indeed rare, some of the diamonds that fluoresce exceptional colors, such as neon green, pink or orange, are even more rare and will likely become the next up-and-coming auction attractions.
